Intro to Programming with Scratch, Python, and Raspberry Pi

By The Hacktory (other events)

5 Dates Through May 04, 2015

ABOUT ABOUT

This is a weekly program to tutor young makers in programming.
Scratch is a programming language that makes it easy to create your
own interactive stories, games, and animations.  Python is a very
popular general purpose language.  Its clear syntax and structure make
it a great language to learn after Scratch.  The Raspberry Pi is a
small computer designed for experimentation and learning, which can be
programmed in Python.

Students can learn at their own pace, and choose whether to focus on
Scratch or Python.  We'll write games and interactive fiction in both
languages.  Students with more experience may also learn to control
LEDs, sensors, and other hardware connected to the Raspberry Pi.

This session is for a 5-week commitment from April 6 to May 4.
Enrollment is limited to 10 students, from 3rd to 5th grades.  Sessions
will take place on Mondays after school from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Any
students from Penn Alexander can be picked up by Hacktory
coordinators, with parent permission.

Laptops will be provided by Dept. of Making + Doing.  Raspberry Pi
computers will be made available to the students to use during the
sessions.
