ABOUT ABOUT

Are you interested in exploring how to use new technology to expand your artistic practice? Have an idea you want to bring to life but it involves projections or motors, or other technology you’re just not that familiar with? Come to this class to learn about how to talk about this new frontier of art, the options out there for software and hardware, and learn about the tutorials and classes available. In the first hour, three artists working in this field will briefly share projects they’ve worked on, how they made them, and how they chose and learned to use the technology they needed.  In the second hour, we will help you install the software you’re most interested in, and get started working with it. You can also network with other attendees, and form a study group for your preferred software. If there’s enough interest in a particular topic or program, The Hacktory will schedule a class in it. We’ve found that many beginner artists aren’t familiar with the terms and programs available to make interactive art, so when we have offered a class in a specific program, only a few people would sign up. This event aims to give a general overview of some of the concepts and technology available to beginners now, and show them how to start making inspiring new works of art. All attendees should bring a laptop to work with.
