ABOUT ABOUT

The lasercutter is really a crafter's dream tool. It cuts, it engraves, and it embosses, on a variety of materials. Most people in the maker world are familiar with the beautiful lasercut wood and cardboard projects out there on the interwebz, but not many have experimented with the possibilities of lasercut fabric. In this workshop we will try lasercutting a few different patterns on a few different fabrics. To help you prepare for our upcoming Galactic Gatsby masquerade party (Nov. 2, tickets on sale now!), we will use patterns inspired by the recent film by Baz Luhrmann. Feel free to bring your own natural-fiber fabric (cotton, wool, silk, leather) to cut and later incorporate into your costume, but we'll have a few options for you to cut a 1 yard piece to take with you. To get an idea of the effect we're talking about, take a look at the work of Diana Eng.
