Want to add lights and pattern to your costume? Here's your chance to use stitchable LEDs and a small microcontroller, the Lilypad Arduino SimpleSnap, to make your glowing frock. Using conductive thread, you will create your own arrangement of LEDs and then learn how to program the controller using a USB connection and your laptop. The best part of the SimpleSnap is that it snaps on and off your design, so you can easily reuse it for other projects or prototyping.
With the LilyPad, your costume will blink, fade, and get the attention it deserves. All parts, materials and spooky snacks will be supplied -- just bring your costume and be ready for fun!
This workshop is part of a series leading up to our annual Hacker Masquerade on November 2 (details & RSVP). This year's theme is Galactic Gatsby, so join us in your best retro-futuristic outfit and dance the night away! Each workshop focuses on a specific technology or project that you can explore, with time built in for developing and executing your costume design.
This event is 13+ and assumes some prior experience with sewing, circuits, or programming. Please direct any questions to cbieber at thehacktory.org
